5 Things You Can Expect From Spielberg’s Ready Player One Film

Ready Player One is a film adaptation of 2011 bestseller of the same title by Ernest Cline, which my 10 year old has been reading and can’t put the book down, so imagined how excited he was to see the film.

And he wasn’t disappointed and neither was I, I loved it!

What the Film is About

In the year 2045, people can escape their harsh reality in the OASIS, an immersive virtual world where you can go anywhere, do anything, be anyone-the only limits are your own imagination. OASIS creator James Halliday left his immense fortune and control of the Oasis to the winner of a contest designed to find a worthy heir. When unlikely hero Wade Watts conquers the first challenge of the reality-bending treasure hunt, he and his friends-known as the High Five-are hurled into a fantastical universe of discovery and danger to save the OASIS and their world.

I knew I was going to like it, I like The film is  production of director Steven Spielberg. (One of my favorite directors) Ready Player One is set to release in theaters on March 30th, 2018 so Here are my top 5 things to expect from the film.

#1: It’s  NOT 100% Faithful to the Book and That’s A Good Thing.

Ernest Cline co-write the film script with Zak Penn and it was well adapted to make it a blockbuster, without changing the storyline, the writers found a way to make it more interesting with climactic car chases and exciting games. Otherwise the film would be long and boring

#2: Viva The 80’s

As an 80’s girl, from the beginning of the film I was excited because it has a lot of 80’s references from music (I wanted to get up and dance) from Duran Duran, classics such as Atari, fashion, icons and movies , Wade Watts’s car is the De Lorean from Back to the Future.

#3: You’ll Feel That You’re Playing The Game

Before James Halliday died, the nerd and  tech genius who created The Oasis, hid an Easter egg somewhere in the circuitry, the players need to find the clues in in the games which will lead them to 3 keys and ultimately the location of the grand prize, the egg, and the mogul’s fortune along with total control of Oasis—is yours,  It’s the ultimate  scavenger hunt! That’s what makes the book so intriguing and my boy can’t stop reading it and on the film it keeps you on the edge of your seat, while Wade, the hero of the movie discovers clues and has to fight Nola Sorrento from IOI, Innovative Online Industries the world’s largest Internet service provider who also is in search of the Egg in Oasis.

#4: Fun For The Whole Family

Ready Player One is a film for the whole family. I’ve never read the book and knew very little about the plot, but I was entertained and excited throughout the whole film which is 2 hours and 20 minutes long but they go fast. Like in the book there’s no violence or sex, and Spielberg isn’t really known for making R-rated content. The film is  PG-13. My boys who love to play video games were amazed about the Virtual Reality world, I guess is any video gamer dream to be able to play a game where your only limitation is your creativity. I personally found the story very entertaining and easy to follow for the most time ( I did ask my kids about 5 questions because I got a bit lost) But I love the energy and fast paced of the film, as well as the characters, my favorite H and we all laughed a lot!

#5: A Glimpse Of What Our World Could Become

The film is set in an overpopulated, environmentally depleted 2045 world, Ready Player One shows you a future when humans retreat every day and all day into a digital world The Oasis, a worldwide Virtual Reality kingdom, which is an immersive and competitive gameplay where you also have the opportunity for total reinvention. Like Wade and the rest of the characters, they spend all day inside wearing virtual reality glasses and making VR friends, which makes you think, Are we there yet? Nowadays kids and adults spend hours using devices inside their house. I won’t spoil the end of the film, but I like the changes made to Oasis so people interact with people and not Avatars the majority of tehir time.

Overall Ready Player One is an amazing movie, a blockbuster for sure! I didn’t mention hor amazing the special affects are because is Spielberg so is obvious, but I love how the writers, director and producers of the film were able to adapt a book that could be a bit complicated into such entertaining and amazing film. From kids to adults everyone will enjoy it.

Ready Player One is in theaters on March 29th 2018
