A Mexican Taste of Costa Azul Coronado & Gift Card Giveaway

You know I love my Coronado Island and although I love to mix it up and visit different restaurants across the bridge, I love when I find a good restaurant on mys island.

I’m talking about Costa Azul where Mexico meets California. As a mexican I’m very special when it comes to eat at a mexican restaurant, my comparison is always my abuelita’s food which was delicious! But I gotta say I was impressed with Costa Azul because they nailed the mexican flavor.

Their menu is very extensive and for every taste so my boys and I had plenty of choices.

First we ordered a few appetizers, guacamole and chips, the guacamole is made with fresh avocados and the salsa was just the right amount of spice as you can imagine I didn’t last long on our table.

Baja Shrimp Cocktail, can I say Viva Baja! I felt like I was sitting under a palapa at a mexican beach.

I hardly ever order ceviche, because I make the best one! But I really enjoyed the Shrimp Ceviche, just look at the size of this prawn! And they were as fresh as they can be.

We couldn’t resist ordering one of the local favorites, Coconut Crunchy Shrimp, which are jumbo prawns rolled in Japanese bread crumbs and sweet coconut, they were crunchy-tasty! Choosing an entree wasn’t easy, their menu is so tasty and they all scream Mexico! From Pozole de Pollo, Cesar Salad Azul, Carne Asada Torta, but we went for some of the local favorites

My youngest went for one of Costa Azul’s favorites, carne asada tacos which are made with tri-tip, they’re so good! For a moment I thought I was in Tijuana eating at a taqueria.

My oldest, who’s always trying to eat healthy ordered  the Grilled Salmon “Mexican Style” which comes with mexican rice and beans. The salmon was tasty and buttery, I actually finished it for him.

We all loved every bite, but what I also like very much is the ambience, when you’re at Costa Azul you feel at home even if it is your first time at the restaurant. Everyone is so friendly and the service is amazing! Maybe it has to do the owner Brent Sarber is always at the restaurant and greets the regulars and not so regulars by their name. Either for lunch, dinner of a drink, Costa Azul has been a favorite in Coronado since they opened 17 years ago. It only takes one time at Costa Azul to love it and keep coming back, it’s now one of our favorite restaurants!

There’s always something new happening or cooking at Costa Azul. They have Daily Specials such as Skinny Swordfish Tacos, Daily Lunch Specials, Brunch, Taco Tuesday with a real taquero on the restaurant’s patio, $4.95 for two tacos

And an amazing Happy Hour from 3:30-6:30pm Monday-Friday and Sunday all day and night

And Live Music almost every night!

Costa Azul has a great kids’ menu and a healthier menu such as the Costa Spinach Salad, which is Fresh Spinach, tossed with poppyseed dressing, mandarin oranges, hard boiled eggs, hearts of palm, craisins, pumpkin seeds, add chicken or salmon and you have a delicious healthy and tasty plate. My choice next time I visit Costa Azul
